AlphaX

Designed to engineer enzymes for African conditions

AlphaX is Neolence’s in-house enzyme-engineering engine, built to design enzymes for real industrial problems. Invited partner labs make and test them, and the lab or an industry partner produces them at scale. It’s built to make that work faster and cheaper than relying on imports. Starting in Nigeria.

The problem

African industries depend on imported enzymes, and imports are costly.

Enzymes are workhorses in farming, food processing, brewing, animal feed, textiles, leather, detergents, medicine, biofuels and waste treatment. Much of what local industry uses is shipped in, with the cost of importing built into every batch.

The outcome

Designed for the conditions they will run in.

Neolence uses AlphaX to design enzymes for a specific industrial process and the conditions it runs in. AlphaX is designed to learn from every experiment a partner lab runs.

Who it’s for

  • Agriculture

Enzyme design for problems in feed, crop processing and agricultural production.

  • Brewing

Enzyme design for problems in brewing and fermentation.

  • Biofuel

Enzyme design for breaking down plant material in biofuel production.

How it works

In plain language.

Neolence designs the enzymes with AlphaX. Invited partner labs make and test them, and the lab or an industry partner produces them at scale. Our own bench work exists to improve and extend AlphaX.

  1. 01
    AI narrows the search

AlphaX is designed to narrow millions of possible variants down to about 20 candidates for lab testing.

  2. 02
The partner lab makes and tests

The partner lab makes those candidates, tests them at its own bench and shares the results with Neolence, so AlphaX can learn from them.

  3. 03
    Partners produce at scale

The lab or an industry partner produces the enzyme that works, at scale.
